Have your say on the draft Climate Action Plan

Council has developed a draft 2022-2032 Climate Action Plan and we want you to have a further say before the Plan is finalised and adopted.

The draft Plan is informed by previous community consultation – including a community survey conducted in December 2020, attracting more than 750 submissions - the overwhelming majority of which expressed the view that climate change was an important challenge which needed to be addressed.

The Plan is also informed by a risk assessment and broader research and we would like to get your thoughts on the draft Climate Action Plan 2022 – 2032, which when finalised, will set the framework for Council’s actions and importantly, how we will work with the community over the next decade and beyond, to address the challenges

It responds to the projected impacts of climate change in Nillumbik and identifies what Council can and should do to mitigate our contribution to the causes of climate change and to adapt to its potential impacts.

The plan has three key goals across seven focus areas for action.

Key Goals:

Focus areas for action:

  • Strong climate action leadership and culture
  • A climate resilient, adaptive and safe community
  • A climate resilient natural environment
  • Climate responsive Council services, facilities/buildings
  • Zero emissions energy use
  • Sustainable transport
  • A zero waste and circular economy
