Hurstbridge Line Upgrade Stage 2

Planning for the second stage of the Hurstbridge Line Upgrade is now underway. The upgrade will deliver further improvements on the Hurstbridge line, including more train services, less crowding on peak trains and better connections to public transport in Melbourne’s north east.

The project will involve:

  • building a new and modern station at Greensborough
  • a major upgrade to Montmorency Station
  • duplication of around 3 kilometres of track between the suburbs of Greensborough and Montmorency
  • the duplication of around 1.5 kilometres of track between Diamond Creek and Wattle Glen.

Before construction works begin, Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP) needs to seek appropriate planning approvals.

To facilitate these works, LXRP will request the Minister for Planning to make a change to the Banyule, Darebin, Nillumbik and Yarra Planning Schemes.

This is known as a Planning Scheme Amendment (PSA). The PSA process gives the community and other interested stakeholders the opportunity to share what is important to them.

You’re invited to provide feedback on what LXRP should consider as they plan for the project. This feedback will be included in their formal request to amend the planning scheme.
