Mental Health and Wellbeing Advocacy

Nillumbik Council has unanimously endorsed the Nillumbik Mental Health & Wellbeing Advocacy Priorities.

This important piece of work will see Nillumbik Council actively seek funding to improve local mental health services.

Council is seeking the following:

  • Youth Hub

A Youth Hub in Nillumbik will create a dedicated space to provide local young people with holistic health care and support. The hub will deliver mental health services by key providers to meet the needs of young people in Nillumbik.

  • Youth Outreach Program

This program will provide direct outreach to young people in Nillumbik (12-25 years) who are already or may experience vulnerability, with limited engagement in education, training and employment. Benefits will include increased connection to community, a stronger sense of belonging and reduced social isolation.

  • Resourcing for health service providers

Targeted funding will allow our community health service providers to better cater to community needs including, but not limited to, the expansion of services to address identified gaps in eating disorder services, LGBTIQA+ mental health service provision and more.

  • Integrated mental health services

Council’s involvement in the planning and development of the Eltham Area Community Hospital will ensure that the building of health infrastructure in Nillumbik is leveraged to include integrated, mental health services for the local community.

  • Dedicated Community Partnerships Role

This role will work closely with local community services and health providers to facilitate connectivity and collaboration, and will assist Nillumbik residents in navigating local mental health services. Funding of this role will bring Nillumbik Council into line with other, similarly sized Victorian Local Governments.
