Thank you for helping inform Council's decision on whether to retain or demolish the old Plenty Fire station at 109-115 Yan Yean Road, Plenty

The Plenty Fire Brigade will soon be moving to its new fire station, a short distance from its current site at 109-115 Yan Yean Rd, Plenty.

Council resolved in May 2020 to sell land shown as Lot 1 on the Aerial Plan of Land to the Country Fire Authority (CFA) to build a new fire station for its Plenty Brigade.

The old Plenty Fire Station is also located on Council land, and is subject to a lease agreement between Council and the CFA.

When the Plenty Brigade relocates operations to the new fire station, the CFA will have no further use for the old facility and will vacate the site.

When this occurs, Council has the option to keep and repurpose the existing building, or require the CFA to demolish the building and rehabilitate the site.

Council has a contractual obligation to inform the CFA of its decision by mid December 2021 – when construction of the new Plenty Fire Station is anticipated to be complete.

To help us make this decision, we asked our community whether it would like this building to be retained for community use or demolished.

Next Steps

Council will review the feedback and also consider submissions at the 16 November 2021 Planning and Consultation Committee meeting, where submitters will also be able to make verbal statements.
